Jason Waite is a Partner in the Washington office of Alston & Bird. Jason concentrates his practice on the regulations impacting the global movement of goods and technology. He counsels clients on all aspects of customs law, import regulation, export controls and sanctions and embargoes, with an emphasis on compliance, duty savings and strategic global business initiatives.
Jason has significant experience representing clients that are the subject of government investigations involving alleged violations of the import and export laws. He defends clients in proceedings concerning civil and criminal penalties, liquidated damages, debarment and forfeiture. Jason conducts internal investigations and compliance self-assessments, guides clients through voluntary disclosures of import and export violations to government agencies, represents clients in audits and origin verifications and prepares internal trade compliance and training programs. In transactional matters and strategic initiatives, Jason both directs and responds to trade compliance due diligence inquiries and negotiates and documents compliance responsibilities and commitments of parties in transactions.
Jason has worked on pro bono immigration and human rights matters for over 12 years. He has successfully represented Mauritanians and Cameroonians in such matters. He has served on the Board of Ayuda since 2006. Jason lives in the Woodley Park neighborhood of Washington, D.C. with his wife and two sons.< Back
